FAQ

Everything important about GymButt, answered briefly.

What is GymButt?

GymButt is an iPhone app for strength training. You log sets, weights and reps, and with every workout your avatar Butt earns XP, levels up and unlocks new outfits, hairstyles and items.

Is GymButt free?

Yes. Workouts, over 300 exercises, templates, the avatar, streaks and history are free and ad-free. The optional GymButt Pro subscription adds extra features.

What does GymButt Pro include?

Pro adds workout generation, weekly and monthly reports, the strength check, a nutrition profile with daily needs and macros, all recipes and up to three Butties groups. The subscription runs through Apple and comes with a 7-day free trial.

Do I need an account?

No. Without an account all your data stays on your iPhone. You only need an account via Sign in with Apple for Butties, the groups with friends.

What happens to my data?

Workouts, weights, body weight, nutrition and Apple Health data stay on your iPhone. There are no ads, no tracking and no analytics tools. In Butties, only members of your groups see your nickname, your Butt, level, streak and whether you trained today. Weights, sets and health data are never uploaded.

Is GymButt available on Android?

Not yet. GymButt currently runs on iPhone only.

Where can I get GymButt?

GymButt is in beta. You can get it for free through Apple's TestFlight: install TestFlight from the App Store, then open the invite link on gymbutt.ch.

How does Butt get new items?

Every workout earns XP. New levels, achievements like a streak record or new personal bests, weekly challenges and the monthly challenge unlock caps, hairstyles, glasses, outfits and fur colors.

What happens if I take a break?

Rest days are planned in and don't hurt your streak, and there are freezes too. After several days without any movement Butt gets lazy and slumps on the couch. Levels and items are never lost, and one workout cheers Butt right up.

Is GymButt good for beginners?

Yes. There are ready-made beginner workouts with bodyweight, free weights or machines. Every exercise has a figure, short instructions and common mistakes.

Can I import my data from Strong or Hevy?

Yes. Import the CSV export from Strong or Hevy in the settings. Imported workouts show up in your history and count toward records and weight suggestions.

What are Butties?

Butties are small groups of up to six people. Your avatars stand side by side, you see who trained this week and can cheer each other on. There is deliberately no leaderboard and no public profiles.

Does GymButt work with Strava and Apple Health?

Yes. Steps and cardio workouts come from Apple Health. You can send a strength workout to Strava if you want, with duration and exercise list.

Can I log cardio?

Yes. Treadmill, rowing machine, cycling and more with time and distance, and the stair climber with floors.

Which languages is GymButt available in?

German and English.
